The Stickley Roadshow

A recent special event at our WILLIAMSBURG at Home store invited guests to not "just admire fine furniture - appreciate it!" In a fun and informative two hours our best customers joined Mike Danial of Stickley for a fascinating look at the history of this legendary furniture company.



Since 1900 Stickley Craftsmen have been making history by creating pieces by hand. From designing each piece to executing the intricate details of making it a work of art, each step is meticulously perfected. The styles represented in Stickley's collection for WILLIAMSBURG is comprised of four art historical periods from the baroque period in the late 1600's to the neoclassical era of the 1800's. Committed to quality and education, this collection is guided by a review committee of curators and historians to provide reproduction pieces that are as close to the original as modern industrial methods can allow.

Guests learned how a true masterpiece is created as well as the surprising reasons why some furniture pieces become family heirlooms while others end up at garage sales. With Stickley, no two pieces are precisely alike. The finishing of WILLIAMSBURG pieces is a complex process that entails 31 distinct steps. Therefore, the importance of proper methods of caring for and preserving your favorite furniture was stressed to ensure generations of enjoyment. Some suggestions for care included:

• avoiding over-exposure to strong sunlight


• when protecting tops with glass, do not use felt dots, plastic dots, or cork under the glass


• avoid using rubber or plastic products on the furniture since a chemical reaction could harm the finish


• don't use products containing silicone
