This morning I was booked to appear on Good Morning Maryland (WMAR/ABC Channel 2) to share some easy entertaining ideas for the summer. The producer was intrigued by the concept of creating a floral arrangement in a pineapple, one of the segments on my "WILLIAMSBURG Spring Entertaining Style" DVD, and asked if I could recreate that segment for the Good Morning Maryland viewers. The answer was a quick "of course I can!"
In addition to showing the viewers a table that is visually appealing it is equally important to display ideas that are easy to understand and economical. When I originally put the ideas together for this dvd 2 years ago, I was more concerned with offering the audience a unique WILLIAMSBURG-inspired centerpiece. But, as I was preparing this arrangment in the wee hours of the morning today before the show it occured to me that in additon to being fun to create, interesting to look at, and a great conversation piece, this pineapple arrangement is the epitome of the concept "waste not, want not". The pineapple is cored so that you can fill the inside with floral foam and use it as a vase leaving the inside to be eaten as you normally would.
A backdrop of crisp green, yellow, and melon colors mixed with WILLIAMSBURG pineapple glasses to round out the theme making this tablescape a success. As you will see in the video clip below, I stress the importance of incorporating a theme but not going overboard with "too much of a good thing." It's also vitally important to keep your summer entertaining easy and relaxing which starts with you, the host! This summer have fun and enjoy...
